Horse's Tail Vineyards
Anniversary Red Blend & Anniversary White Blend

In June of 2006, at the ripe old age of 98, our Grandmother died. The worst "foul" word our grandmother, Viola Castelli would say is you horse's tail.  That's why we named our company Horse's Tail Spirits, LLC d/b/a Seneca Wine and Liquor.  Now we are introducing HORSE'S TAIL VINEYARDS SELECT WINES.

When we made the decision to offer a private selection, we wanted our private select wines to come from the United States, we wanted to be able to offer a great tasting wine at an affordable everyday price.  We tasted wines from California to Washington State and from New York to the New England area.  One winery from California really caught our palates, it was Mountain View from Morgan Hill, California. The proprietor of Mountain View, Kevin Shannon, started in the cellar at Caymus in 1976 and Mountain View's winemaker Philip Zorn was formally with Merryvale. You can tell from the second you taste our private selection that it is something very special.  The renowned wine counisorier Robert Parker said about Mountain View, "Some of the best values in the marketplace have come from Mountain View.  Smart consumers should be buying these wines by the case...".

Mountain View cultivated an impressice portfolio of artisan growers such as Paraiso Springs, Coblestone, Clockspring and Morningsun vineyards to deliver a price-to-quality value ratio unmatched in any California wine!

Mountain View bottles for many top retailers and restaurants in North America.  We picked Mountain View to bottle our private selections because it tasted like an expensive bottle of wine at an unbelievable price.  With our new label you can enjoy an an extravagant tasting wine at an everyday price!  Come on in and try it out!

FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS, HORSE'S TAIL IS THE BEST CALIFORNIA QUALITY VALUE WINE. And...don't be a Horse's Tail!  Buy Horse's Tail by the case...You'll Love It!

WE MADE THE NEWS!
No horsing around:
Business boasts new wine

Nov 10, 2007

By TORY N. PARRISH

Observer-Dispatch

I usually restrict this column to news about retail and restaurant openings, closings, relocations, expansions or other major happenings.

I’ve established these parameters in order to keep the column infused with fresh, interesting news because it was never intended to become a forum for businesses’ advertisements disguised as news.

While I wish every local business the best of luck, nobody wants to read about a store carrying a new line of odor eaters.

It just isn’t compelling reading.

Having stated that, I’ve made an exception this week for Seneca Wine and Liquor and Georgio’s Village Café.

The New Hartford-based businesses aren’t new, closing, expanding, etc., but they are now offering private label wines bottled exclusively from them.

The businesses’ owners insist they offer the area’s only private label wine.

In September, Seneca Wine and Liquor began selling merlot, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay wine under the name Horse’s Tail Vineyards.

The store is owned by Gregory Gorea and his sister Judy Gorea, who purchased it from Gene Laube in October 2006.

At 8630 Seneca Turnpike, Seneca Wine and Liquor was founded in 1983.

Judy Gorea and the Goreas’ cousin George Frattasio own Georgio’s Village Café, which is located at 60 Genesee St.

The café sells the merlot and chardonnay by the bottle, and all three wines by the glass as the house wines, Judy Gorea said.

The process of getting a private label wine was an arduous one, from find a bottler to gaining label content and graphic approval for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Gregory Gorea said.

Distributed by Martin Scott Wines in New York City, the Horse’s Tail wines are made and bottled by Mountain View Vintners in Morgan Hill, Calif.

The Goreas say they, their customers and their employees sampled about 40 companies’ wines before selecting the unique blends produced by Mountain View.

“It tasted really great, and we could offer it at such a great price,” Gregory Gorea said.

Sales are going well, Judy Gorea said.

“Absolutely wonderful. I have people that leave here and go right (to Seneca Wine and Liquor) and buy it, and that’s no joke,” she said.

The Goreas say they plan to expand their private label offerings by obtaining their own importer’s license.

“We found a pino grigio from (Trentino) Italy that we’d like to bottle under our own name,” Gregory Gorea said.

And what’s in a name?

The Gorea’s late grandmother, Viola Castelli, disliked cursing. So, when the when the soup hit the fan, “horse’s tail” was the closest thing to an expletive she would utter.
